Woman Climbs into X-ray Machine Because She Didn't Want to ...

This is the moment a passenger climbed into an x-ray machine because she did not trust train security staff with her handbag. An unbelievable photograph shows the women on all fours on a conveyor belt as she follows her bag as it passes through the security scanner. It is thought the woman did not want to be separated from her bag and its contents at Dongguan Railway Station in Chinas southern Guangdong Province.

And while it is unclear what she was carrying in her handbag it is likely to have been wads of cash traditionally given as a gift for Chinese New Year. The woman had happily put her suitcases through the machine before walking through the security checkpoint holding the smaller handbag. But security staff told her this bag would also have to be checked and so she reluctantly wheeled back round and placed it on the conveyor belt.

But officers were stunned when she started to climb on herself and were left so speechless they did not stop her as she collected her bags and rushed to get her train.Dongguan Railway Station staff have advised passengers not to ride the X-ray machines saying radiation given off by the scanners can be harmful.

Can I Safely Eat Whatever Goes Through the X-ray Machine?
Can I Safely Eat Whatever Goes Through the X-ray Machine?
This might be an odd question, but I often take a sandwich or fruit to eat while waiting for the airplane. This means that my food goes through the security x-ray machine. I don't understand much about radioactivity, so I was wondering: Is it safe to eat that food right after going through the security machine? or suffer harmful mutations that can affect ones health? Can it keep some latent/cumulative radioactive effect? Bananas, by nature have a very low level of radioactivity. Does it get increased, for example? Can I safely eat the food that goes through the x-ray machine after the security check? There is XRays are the second kind, ionizing radiation, meaning they may alter some molecules (i.e. the arrangement of atoms), but will not affect the atoms themselves(so no radioactivity is created). The altering of molecules may also happen to the DNA molecule, which is why XRays are kept to a minimum. So the apple sent through the machine might get a mutation, but the chance of that being a problem to the apple are remote, and the mutated apple being a problem to you is virtually nonexistent. Sending old school films through an old school XRay might be a problem for the film (film is coated with molecules that are easily altered, because detecting (visible)radiation is it's job, and old XRays used higher power sources).Your association of XRay machines with radioactivity might come from the hazard sign above, that is sometimes quite prominently displayed on Xray machines. It simply warns of ionizing radiation, which can, as stated, damage your DNA, thereby giving you cancer, etc, depending on strength. It's popular meaning of "Danger! Radioactivity" came about because radioactive materials emit ionizing radiation (that's actually why it's called radioactive, the ionizing radiation messes with radio-equipment). So Radioactive materials emit ionizing radiation, but ionizing radiation does not produce radioactivity. OTHER ANSWER: x-rays are a form of light, just a frequency that your eye cannot see.exposing food to xrays, in any amount, will not make the food radioactive, just like shining a very bright light on your food will not make it shine once you turn the light off.Exposing food to fatal doses of EM radiation (like xrays) is how the US Department of Defense prepares its field rations. This technique has been extensively studied since the 60's by academia and the military alike, and no adverse effects have been found

Sikhs in Airport 'disrespect' Demo
Sikhs in Airport 'disrespect' Demo
Thousands of Sikhs will gather in London today to protest against harassment they say they experience at European airports. The demonstration, in Parliament Square at noon, will be held simultaneously with others in four other capitals to protest against what Sikhs describe as intimidation and disrespect of their faith at European airports. They say in recent months there have been growing problems at airports for Sikhs travelling from the UK being asked to remove their turbans despite successfully passing through security scanners. The campaign is being coordinated by the Sikh Channel, a cable TV station based in Birmingham and London which broadcasts to an international audience. Abinash Singh and his wife Balraj, from Hayes, west London, recently appeared on the channel describing their experience at an Italian airport where officials forced the removal of his turban. Mr Singh said: "After the contribution of the Sikhs in the world wars, after the positive contribution made to European society by Sikhs, this treatment is deeply upsetting." Today's demonstration - in line with similar protests in Brussels, Rome and Madrid which will be connected by a live link and shown on big screens - is expected to be attended by community leaders and Sikh celebrities as well as Wolverhampton MP and former adviser to Tony Blair Pat McFadden. The group argues that there is no justified security reason for removal of turbans which have successfully passed through scanners. It is calling on national governments in Europe to investigate the treatment of Sikhs at airports and make representations to their European partners where Sikhs are found to be abused. A spokesman for the Sikh Channel said: "Reports from across Europe indicate that our Sikh brothers are being forced to remove their turbans at airport security. "This is a totally unacceptable infringement of our faith, it's also totally unnecessary as turban is no different than any other item of clothing in relation to a metal detector or x-ray machine." The demonstration will also include retired military personnel and the world oldest marathon runner, Fauja Singh, campaigners said. Aviation Minister Theresa Villiers said: "I fully recognise the cultural and religious sensitivities surrounding the touching of a Sikh's turban, which is why this Government acted swiftly when the Sikh community expressed concern about new EU rules on the searching of turbans at airports. "We engaged with community leaders and obtained permission from the European Commission to run a trial that is now under way at a number of UK airports. "This trial aims to establish whether security standards can be maintained in respect of the screening of religious headwear without the need for a hand search. "I have also written to ministers across Europe with responsibility for aviation security to explain this trial and to underline the importance the UK attaches to resolving this issue." PA

Key Witness Stand Off, Recurring Delays Stall Forgotten Krejcir Case
Key Witness Stand Off, Recurring Delays Stall Forgotten Krejcir Case
On the sixth floor of the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg, in a gangland murder case most have forgotten about, there's a slow-burning standoff unfolding and the delays are costing taxpayers millions of rands.Beyond the bevy of armed guards and metal detectors, four men including Czech convict and former underworld boss Radovan Krejcir, are on trial for a 2013 hit on Lebanese drug dealer Sam Issa aka 'Black Sam' or 'Cripple Sam'. Issa was gunned down outside Bedford Centre early on a Saturday morning while driving his black Audi Q7.Read:'The cripple, the loose-mouthed Serb and the drug deal gone wrong' - Extract from Krejcir, the bookThe trial has been running before Judge Winston Msimeki for exactly two years and has been postponed dozens of times, with more than 50 days of testimony so far. Each court day, the accused are rushed to the courthouse in a cavalcade of armoured vehicles, blue lights flashing down Pritchard Street. At least 40 heavily armed Correctional Services officials and SA Police Service officers are deployed to courtroom 6E while it is in session, and journalists and members of the public are required to pass through an x-ray machine to gain access. There have been numerous postponements as a result of Krejcir's poor health, some due to various applications the accused brought and because of conflicts in lawyers' diaries. Now, one of the State's key witnesses is digging in his heels and it seems, is refusing to return to the stand. The situation is resulting in continued postponements that are stalling the trial, leaving the accused and their lawyers frustrated.Lucky Mokoena, a self-confessed hitman and robber, has been testifying for the prosecution against Krejcir and his co-accused. These include Siboniso Miya aka 'Zuluboy', Nkanyiso Mafunda and Simphiwe Memela, also known as 'Baba ka Jesu'.A fifth accused, Bulgarian Lyubomir 'Mike' Grigorov, has also turned State witness. Grigorov spent more than 30 days in the witness stand under cross-examination.Another key player, who has gone by the pseudonym 'Jacob Nare', is also waiting in the wings to testify. He was controversially taken into the witness protection programme by forensic consultant Paul O'Sullivan and then dropped from it by police. O'Sullivan has since been protecting him.Mokoena has finished his evidence in chief and is now due to be cross-examined. It's understood that he has been offered a deal in terms of Section 204 of the Criminal Procedure Act, which will give him indemnity from prosecution in this case in exchange for his testimony if the court deems fit. However, those involved in the matter say Mokoena is unhappy that he has lost an appeal on a separate house robbery case and a warrant has been issued for him in that matter. It appears as though he is seeking blanket indemnity from the NPA, however, the prosecuting authority has not confirmed this.Party held to 'celebrate' hitThe NPA's spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says that Mokoena remains a State witness and he is expected to return to the witness stand yet again on Wednesday. In his evidence-in-chief, Mokoena testified about how he was introduced to Krejcir by convicted drug dealer and businessman Glenn Agliotti. He explained how Krejcir requested Mokoena to rob Issa's house and then kill the Lebanese man after stealing his firearms and jewellery. Grigorov had also previously testified about how the robbery had taken place two weeks before Issa was gunned down. Four men wearing balaclavas had forced their way into Issa's house, covered his head with a hood, cable-tied his arms and legs and beat him. His attackers made off with jewellery, an AK-47 and other firearms.Mokoena has also testified about how he was present at Krejcir's Money Point shop in Bedfordview when he allegedly instructed the accused to shoot Issa and how the men responsible told him that the job had been done. He has also further implicated Agliotti, claiming that he was present when Krejcir gave the instruction to kill Issa at a party that was held to "celebrate" the hit.Agliotti has strongly denied that he was in any way involved or that he introduced Mokoena to Krejcir. In an interview last year, Agliotti said he was at Money Point the Friday afternoon before Issa was killed."It was like a Friday afternoon, they were drinking vodka, I had a double espresso. I said goodbye to them and I left. It was so friendly like f****ng, kissing and cuddling. Very friendly, no hostility, nothing whatsoever. It was 4pm in the afternoon; they used to drink right through the night. I left and the next morning I hear the s**t on the news so I f****ng phone Krejcir and say jeez what happened to Sam? He said, 'Can you f****ng believe it?' I said 'What the f**k happened and he said he didn't know; he was going to get his guys to find out."Agliotti says he was interviewed by the Hawks about the murder.ALSO READ:Former Gauteng Hawks head Sibiya denies all Krejcir corruption claims"I was interviewed by the Hawks in the Sandton police station. The Hawks called me in; I was coming back from Swaziland. I got this call from a colonel in the Hawks and I said, sure, no problem. He said he wanted to interview me about Issa, Krejcir and Mokoena. I went there and asked what they wanted."He said: 'Lucky Mokoena'. I said that Lucky Mokoena was a two-bit gangster so he's trying to implicate me. He's a hustler. He's got like 60 cases against him drugs, theft all sorts of shit. You'll always see him driving in a Ferrari with the best labels, but he scams. If you look at his cases they are either robbery or armed robbery or whatever."Mokoena's allegations are to secure freedomKrejcir's lawyer previously said they believe Mokoena is making these allegations to secure his own freedom. The accused deny the charges against them and are expected to call several witnesses in their defence. However, that could mean that this trial will drag on for several years still. Prosecutors are also waiting to finalise this trial before they get going on another case involving a plot to assassinate Paul O'Sullivan and ex-policeman Nkosana 'Killer' Ximba in 2014.Parallel to this is a separate process involving Krejcir's potential extradition to the Czech Republic.Last year, the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court ruled that Krejcir could be extradited and now it is up to the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services to decide his fate.Krejcir is currently serving a 35-year prison sentence after being convicted of attempted murder and kidnapping in 2015.Ironically, this prolonged matter in courtroom 6E pales in comparison to the trial running in the courtroom just next door where Tigon accused Gary Porritt is facing more than 3 000 charges of fraud, racketeering and contraventions of the Income Tax Act, the Companies Act and the Stock Exchange Control Act. That case has been on the court roll since 2002 and is still rolling.

Lithotripsy As a Kidney Stone Treatment - What You Should Know
Lithotripsy As a Kidney Stone Treatment - What You Should Know
Kidney stones can sometimes reach a certain size wherein it is no longer removable by passing it out via the urinary tract. The sufferer is already in a state of too much pain and is showing signs of infection. Intermittent chills and fever adds to the unbearable pain, hence it is quite obvious that the kidney stone treatment can longer be simple remedial cures. The process of lithotripsy may be recommended as a kidney stone treatment. What is Lithotripsy?Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy or ESWL is a kidney stone treatment applied to remove a large kidney stone blocking the ureter. There is actually no surgery involved but instead the kidney stones will be broken down into the smallest particles as possible with the use of shock waves. From being a large kidney stone that has the ability to block the ureter entrance, application of the ESWL technique has the capability to turn into small grain like particles, much easier to pass via the urine excretion. There are two ways in proceeding with ESWL technique. One method places the patient in a tub full of lukewarm water where the body will be placed in a position, which will allow the x-ray machine to locate where stones are situated. The other method allows the patient to lie down on a padded membrane where shock waves can pass through. It is quite important that the persons kidney stone can be determined as to largeness, quantity and location. This way, the process of going through ESWL will be most effective in eliminating whatever kidney stones are present in the renal area. The whole procedure may take 45 to 60 minutes with an estimated 1,000 to 2,000shock waves applied. As soon as he or she gets out of the clinic for said treatment, the patient can resume his usual activities within a day or two of recuperating. A person undergoing EWSL doesnt have to be confined. Hospital bills therefore will not balloon due to the high cost of hospital stays. Though advantageous, it can also be expensive. Besides, not all kidney stone disorders can be treated using this technique. However, there are cases that after the treatment, the kidney stones may still be painful in passing out. Hence, there are proper drug medications to alleviate the pain. Although the relief that one patient gets will take longer if he or she is known to have a low rate of success in taking out the kidney stones in his or her system. The recuperating patient must bear in mind that the ESWL method is only to remove the kidney stones found in his renal system. It does not provide permanent cure as others may think. Part of the persons recuperation process is rehabilitating his lifestyle and correcting the deficiencies and excesses in his or her diet. Lithotripsy, like any other kidney stone treatment does not end the kidney stone sufferers disorder; it was resorted to, only to avoid complications.

Airport Security: Child Sneaks into X-ray Machine
Child gets scanned by airport X-rayA child passed through an X-ray machine at an airport in China. Picture: CGTNSource:SuppliedSHOCKING footage shows the moment a child appeared to sneak onto an X-ray machine at an airport. The incident allegedly happened at an airport in China when the childs father looked away from his child briefly, The Sun reported. In the video, taken from Chinese news network CGTN, the bemused dad is seen walking through security before he realises his son is no longer with him.Subtitles on the video read: Where is my son?The dad is seen walking through security at a South China airport. Picture: CGTNSource:SuppliedThe panicked dad is then seen looking for his son before the child eventually appears to come through the X-ray machine on the conveyor belt safely. It is understood security staff at the airport confirmed the child passed through the machine after an X-ray was taken of him automatically. But The Sun Online has not been able to verify the footage independently. His son then emerges from the X-ray scanning machine. Picture: CGTNSource:SuppliedA Quora thread revealed that while airport scanners produce ionising radiation, the intensity is too low to cause any effect on the human body. This isnt the first time a human has gone through a baggage scanner.Earlier this year a woman from China clambered onto a conveyor belt as she didnt want to be split up from her handbag.Shocked staff did not stop her as she clambered off and went to get her train at Dongguan, China. It turned out hed crawled through the X-ray. Picture: CGTNSource:SuppliedThe woman had happily put her suitcases through the machine before walking through the security checkpoint holding the smaller handbag.Security staff told her that this bag would also have to be checked and she reluctantly circled back to the airport-style luggage scanner.Staff helped the child off the machine. Picture: CGTNSource:SuppliedShe placed her purse on the conveyor belt and then climbed on herself so she could ensure the safety of her bag and the valuables inside. It is unclear what the woman was carrying in her handbag but it is likely to have been wads of cash traditionally given as a gift for Chinese New Year. And in June, a child was injured after climbing onto an airport luggage belt at Auckland International Airport. This article originally appeared on The Sun and was reproduced with permission.

TSA Answers Questions About Enhanced Screening at Airports
TSA Answers Questions About Enhanced Screening at Airports
The initial furor and shock over the enhanced airport screening techniques by the TSA seems to have subsided But with the holiday travel season in force, and continued questions about the security procedures at airports, we posed questions for the TSA: Some skeptics who question the need for the enhanced scanning devices have suggested that former DHS head, Michael Chertoff (and Tom Ridge as well), now a lobbyist in the security industry representing the manufacturers of the enhanced scanning machines, as having some role in the government's decision to spend $160 million on the new scanning machines. Can you comment on the role these lobbyists played in the decision to install the new scanners? TSA has been using the scanners since 2007, long before Mr. Chertoff left DHS and now I do not believe he is a registered lobbyist. I would recommend you check with his firm on that. (See Marcus Baram's reporting ). Why wouldn't the government make more use of bomb-sniffing dogs, and use that as a first-level of security before requiring the more enhanced scanner and then, as a third level of enhanced security, the aggressive pat-down? TSA uses explosive detection K9s at airports nationwide for numerous security purposes as well as at major mass transit systems across the country. TSA screens 2 million people per day. Your recommendation does not seem possible given the number of people who fly daily. (See more . What most people are upset about, it seems, is that everyone is undergoing these enhanced, aggressive checks, even three-year olds and 90-year olds. Is that true that everyone is undergoing? I don't think that's what most people are upset about because "everyone" is not undergoing "aggressive" checks. True, TSA does screen all travelers equally, however, thorough pat downs are only necessary if a person alarms at the walk through metal detector or in the body scanner. They are also employed if a passenger is offered the body scanner and chooses not to get scanned with this technology. Only a very small percentage of passengers require pat downs -- only about 3% in fact. Rather than subjecting everyone to the enhanced body scanner or pat-down, critics have said that there should be more of a focus on behavioral profiling and background checks of travelers - and mention Israel's security system as an example. This country has laws against profiling, but is the DHS/TSA considering some more focus? Screening is not random, however, TSA does employ a behavior detection program at over 160 airports nationwide and the techniques TSA uses are modeled after the Israeli system. TSA and security experts alike agree that profiling is not an effective form of security. TSA has Behavior Detection Officers who utilize non-intrusive behavior observation and analysis techniques to identify potentially high-risk passengers. They screen travelers for involuntary physical and physiological reactions that people exhibit in response to a fear of being discovered, and may refer them for additional screening. Referrals are based on specific observed behaviors only, not on one's appearance, race, ethnicity or religion. BDOs add an element of unpredictability to the security screening process that is easy for passengers to navigate but difficult for terrorists to manipulate. It serves as an important additional layer of security in the airport environment, requires no additional specialized screening equipment, can easily be deployed to other modes of transportation and presents yet one more challenge the terrorists need to overcome in attempt to defeat our security system. BDOs are currently operating at approximately 161 airports nationwide. The TSA received terrible publicity when Tom Sawyer , a 61-year old bladder cancer survivor, underwent a rough pat-down by the security agent at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, causing his urine bag to spill its contents onto his shirt and pants. Why wouldn't there be procedures to assist people with medical conditions? Is there a need for better training? TSA has in place procedures to assist people with medical conditions. Security officers are trained to perform the pat downs in a respectful manner, using very specific techniques. When an officer deviates from these techniques, they are provided additional training. TSA has established a program for screening of persons with disabilities and their associated equipment, mobility aids, and devices. Our program covers all categories of disabilities (mobility, hearing, visual, and hidden). As part of that program, we established a coalition of over 70 disability-related groups and organizations to help us understand the concerns of persons with disabilities and medical conditions. These groups have assisted TSA with integrating the unique needs of persons with disabilities into our airport operations. I have always been troubled by the focus specifically on airline travel, when there have been terror attacks in London, Madrid, Moscow and other places directed on subways, commuter rail, passenger rail and ships. Why isn't there comparable security put on these other forms of mass-travel? No need to be troubled. TSA has been working with mass transit and the maritime industry for years. TSA Surface Transportation Security Inspectors, from the TSA Office of Security Operations, conduct on-site inspections of mass transit and passenger rail agencies and maintain collaborative working relationships with industry representatives. They work closely with the TSA Mass Transit Security Division for support and programmatic direction. Do you have any tips or assurances to the traveling public? Dress the Part : Transportation security officers have to identify any metal that is detected at the checkpoint. If the metal detector alarms when you pass through, you will be required to undergo additional screening. This includes a hand-wand and pat-down inspection. Body Piercings . Certain metal body piercings may cause you to alarm at the metal detector, which will result in you getting additional screening. If additional screening is required, you may ask to remove your body piercing in private as an alternative to the pat-down search. Head Coverings . You are permitted to wear head coverings and religious garments during the screening process. You may be directed to additional screening if your headwear or clothing (religious or otherwise) is loose fitting or large enough to hide prohibited items. Shoes . Travelers are required to remove their shoes before entering the walk-through metal detector at all U.S. airports and put them through the x-ray machine for inspection. This allows officers to see if the shoes have been tampered with in any way. Have Ready : The items you'll need to present to a Transportation Security Officer at the checkpoint are Boarding pass and government-issued photo Identification. TSA encourages each adult traveler to keep his/her airline boarding pass and government-issued photo ID available until exiting the security checkpoint (children are not required to show identification). If you do not have identification (if it is lost, stolen, etc.), you will be required to provide the document checking officer with some information to help verify your identity. This will slow down your screening process and will result in additional screening. (See more ) After the holiday season (or if I am correct and there is a concern for heightened terror threat at this time), do you expect the TSA will use a more selective screening process? I can't speculate on what will transpire after the holiday season, but TSA will continue to employ security measures designed to address current intelligence and threat information. ______________ 2010 Travel Features Syndicate, a division of Workstyles, Inc. Common Chiropractic Tools Found in a Chiropractic Clinic
Common Chiropractic Tools Found in a Chiropractic Clinic
For those who are not familiar with chiropractic, it is an alternative medicine that focuses their treatment on hand techniques and other tools. It is the belief of the doctors of chiropractors that a persons well being is based on the spinal alignment. When the spine is in its proper position, all else in the body is in optimum running condition. Hence, they make use of instruments that guide them on their treatment for each client that they, have to know where subluxation or spinal misalignment is located. There are various chiropractic tools in a chiropractic clinic and are discussed below. The most common tool you can observe in a chiropractor clinic is the adjusting table. It is where the patient is allowed to position by the chiropractor to do any adjustments particularly the spine. The surface of the table is padded and comfortable allowing for the patient to feel at ease while the chiropractor is doing the treatment. It is also an elevated table to give the chiropractor enough height to make the adjustments on the patient. Such table is suitable for the chiropractor to work on the patient and to properly provide chiropractic care.To better guide the chiropractor in the chiropractic therapy for the patient, x-ray machines are used to locate the subluxations in a patient. X-ray machine is one of the chiropractic tools that will show the chiropractor where the misalignment is so appropriate adjustment is given to the patient. Other than the x-ray machine, nervo-scope and neurocalometer can also be found in a chiropractic clinic. Nervo-scope is a hand-held probe that can measure temperature of the skin on either side of the spine to detect misalignment or subluxations. Neurocalometer also is an instrument, which measures heat to locate spinal subluxations.Chiropractors are trained during their extensive educational years that the spine contributes a major factor in a bodys health. As the spinal column is the main organ in the nervous system, it is essential that it should always be at its right position. If the spine is misaligned, then the nerves will get pinched where pain and aches are felt in different parts of the body. This is why chiropractors are known to give holistic approach to health where the root cause of the pain is found out. Other than understanding why the body ache is present, chiropractors make sure that the patient knows how to continue home care to prevent such pain from coming back. An individualized program is set with exercises, diet changes as well as lifestyle modifications.Even though there are numerous chiropractic tools that help the chiropractor in providing their treatment the most important are the hands. Doctors of chiropractors have undergone rigorous training to master the hand techniques that are inherent of chiropractic care. Through the personal connection that is made with a hand, the chiropractor is able to give modalities and massages that are needed by the patient. The hand pressure is also easily adjusted whichever is needed by the patient to give the best chiropractic therapy.
