Royal Wedding: Will He Or Won't He? Meghan Markle's

Thomas Markle, the under-siege dad of royal bride-to-be Meghan Markle, was the man of the moment Tuesday as questions continued to fester about whether he willwalk his daughter down the aisle when she marries Prince Harry at Windsor Castle on Saturday.First he was, then he wasn't,then he was again, and now, if you believe celebrity-scandal website TMZ, he isn't. Instead, he's having heart surgery early Wednesdayin Mexico and thus will miss the festivities because he won't be able to fly.

Royal Wedding: Will He Or Won't He? Meghan Markle's 1

Don't look to Kensington Palace for clarity: Royal press representativescontinue to maintain their "no comment" stanceabout what is going on, possibly because they don't know themselves. And who can blame them?Thomas Markle's seeming indecisionabout whether he would be at the wedding in St.

George's Chapel has been mysterious , not least because developments are being filtered through only one media source: TMZ.Even the usually indefatigable British tabloids, not to mention their American counterparts, have failed to reach Markle to get him on the record about why he might miss a family wedding he himself has labeled "historic."On Monday, TMZ reported that Markle was a no-go.

He cited the heart attack he suffered last week from the stress of paparazzi coverage, plus his own regret and embarrassment when The Mail on Sunday,a British tabloid, revealed Sunday that he had colluded with a paparazzo to stage seemingly "candid" photos of himself preparing for the wedding. On Tuesday morning, TMZ was back with a new story: Markle told the website he had decided he would go tothe wedding, after daughter Meghan contacted him to plead with him. But there was a potential snag:He was back in the hospital with chest pains.

Markle told TMZ he had reconsidered his regret about the staged photos and now believes it was "stupid" but not a "serious transgression." Consequently, he wantedto be there Saturday for his daughter."I hate the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history and walking my daughter down the aisle," TMZ quoted him as saying.

Royal Wedding: Will He Or Won't He? Meghan Markle's 2

"I'd like to be a part of history."By Tuesday afternoon, TMZ's latest update reported Markle changed his mind again. He thought he could get out of the hospital in time to travel to Windsor, but then realized it would be impossible after surgery.

"The surgery seems to be the final end to a roller coaster of speculation surrounding whether Mr. Markle would attend the royal wedding, just hours after it seemed Meghan had convinced her father to change his mind and walk her down the aisle," reported the Daily Mail.A final end?

Maybe. But how did it come to this? The palace has notclarified.

The last official statement, issued late Monday, was a masterpiece of obfuscation: It neither confirmed nor denied whether Markle would be at the wedding.Royal wedding snafu: Markle's half-sister blames press for dad's heart attack; won't say if he'll miss wedding"This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding.

She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation," the statement said. The "difficult situation" has been months in the making.

Ever since Harry and Meghan's relationship became known publicly in the fall of 2016, Thomas Markle and his ex-wife, Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, have been pursued by the media for interviews, quotes and pictures.Once their engagement was announced in November, the media frenzy increased as publications sought to build profiles of Harry's in-laws-to-be.Thomas Markle, 73,seems to have been unprepared for the pressure.

A former Hollywood lighting directorwith money problems (he declared bankruptcy in 2016), he retired to a beach resort south of Tijuana in Baja California. His relationship with his daughter was loving but distant in recent years (she was living in Toronto while filming her legal drama, Suits), while her relationship with her mother has been close.Meanwhile, herrelationships with other members of the Markle family have been tense at best.

Hertwo estranged half-siblings,Samantha Markle and Thomas Markle Jr, have both said poisonous things about her in interviews for months and have publicly slammed her for not inviting them to the wedding.Samantha Markle acknowledged, in interviews Monday and Tuesday, that she advised her father to do the photo shoot with a paparazzo to improve his image in the media, whomshe dismissed as "vultures."She told Good Morning Britain that her father's heart attack was due to the "unbelievable" stress brought on by media attention.

Her father told TMZ he blames his heart attack on his son, who wrote a letter to Harry two weeks ago advising him not to marry Meghan and then blabbed about it to In Touch. So who will walk Meghan Markle down the aisle? Maybe her mother, whohas been far more discrete than her ex-husband's family in the run-up to the wedding.

So far, the palace isn't saying.More: Royal wedding weather forecast is 'almost perfect' but rather cloudyMore: Royal wedding: Windsor in full swing for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's big day

Roller Coaster Ride: Stock Market Trading Strategies for Newcomers
Roller Coaster Ride: Stock Market Trading Strategies for Newcomers
Get your skin in the gameThe Stock market can seem like an intimidating place: expert investors bidding up prices in anticipation of new trends, market analysts flaunting around their indecipherable jargon, important people making even more important calls. It all seems very complex and reserved to insiders. But it doesnt have to be.Potential investors are all shackled by anxiety: Only one in three millennials is currently investing in the stock market, according to Bankrate, a financial advice website. Fear takes many shapes and forms. For many its the possibility of a collapse; for some, its the lack of professionals they could entrust their savings with; for many others, its the simple question: How do I begin? And thats the pivotal point: many want to get their skin in the game, but just dont know how. Thats why in this article well cover the basic two ways of investing and, later on, trading strategies to help the newcomers out.Passive vs Active trading strategiesBefore you spend all of your savings on a Warren Buffet outfit and go storm the NASDAQ stock exchange, you have to sit down and choose the appropriate strategy. Everyone knows to buy low, sell high but theres more to it.Broadly speaking, there are two types: Passive and Active investing.Passive investingPassive investors hold on to their assets despite the up-and-down price rollercoaster its all about the long-term outcome for them. They usually invest in mutual funds or index funds and are not full-time occupied with trading throughout the day. Also known as a buy-and-hold strategy, passive investing means that investors do not seek to time the market perfectly or profit from short-term price fluctuations the assumption is that the market will generally deliver positive returns over a long time horizon.Lets look at an example. The Standard & Poors 500 index one of the most widely known of its kind has been jumping up and down throughout the year (see graph above). But its overall value has nevertheless grown by 8.65% since the beginning of the year.Passive investors have a relatively low risk-tolerance, and think they are unlikely to out-smart the market. Their profits are thus moderate, but so are their potential losses. They seek to avoid the broker fees associated with constant buying and selling. Some collect dividends from firms. Most spread their risk across multiple industries.Active investingActive investors are more risk tolerant. They buy and sell securities in a time frame of a few hours for quick profits by exploiting short-term price fluctuations. In other words, theyre the ones that jump on the ship when the prices go up, and they jump out once they begin to plummet. The potential returns are high some investors bring home six-digit earnings. But equally large is the possibility of burning all of your savings because of a few mistakes.Because the fees for buying/selling are relatively high and the stock prices usually dont swing much active traders rely on a large volume of trades to make a buck. That also means the assets they invest into must be liquid (quickly exchangeable back to hard currency). Thats why you wont see day-traders buying up works of 19th century French photographers they simply couldnt sell them on the market quickly enough. In the past, active trading strategies were reserved to professional traders, who had and in-house brokerage (to lower commission fee) and could cope with high-frequency trading. But with real-time market data available to everyone there is a whole plethora of online tools that offer opportunities for any individual to become an active trader. Active trading strategiesActive trading is speculative in nature. Investors thus depend on some sort of market strategy a type of active trading they believe will help them beat the market. Some are indeed superstitious:In one of the episodes of a famous American sitcom Friends, Monica, one of the main characters, notices a stock with her initials (MEG) and decides to try her luck as an active trader. Her strategy, obviously, doesnt hold. Other methods are built on rigorous technical analysis and predictive methods. The following are only the most common ones.Trading on the NewsMarkets rally up and down constantly for a number of reasons. It might be a corporate scandal, an announcement that central bank is raising interest rates or a speech delivered by a countrys leader. As the name implies, traders seek to exploit these news.Day tradingNow synonymous with the definition of Active trading, Day trading is essentially a strategy to only trade securities on the same day. The stocks you bought are sold within the same day, and no position is held overnight.Positions tradingPositions trading is the method of riding the trend. By using longer term charts in combination with other predictive methods, position traders seek to jump on the wave and benefit from both the up and down of market movements. Swing TradingSwing traders are the scramblers that get in once some trend breaks. At that point, there is some volatility in the market the ups and downs become far more likely. Swing trading is a form of art that seeks to capture profits from those small short-term swings. ScalpingScalping is a method of profiting from thousands of tiny movements in price based on tick charts and one-minute charts. The strategy involves exploitation of various price gaps usually caused by bid-ask spreads.Short selling (Shorting)Excluding the technical element of how it is actually done, shorting is essentially an investment on the premise that a stock or a whole market will go down. Numerous movies have been made about it it is perhaps the most sinister way to invest, but, in a crisis period, potentially the most profitable.Other notable mentions that didnt make it into the list are range trading, pairs trading and momentum trading.A few final wordsTime is your friend in the stock market. The earlier you get started, the earlier you figure things out the better your returns will be.The amount of money in the market can seem way above your pay grade New York Stock Exchange alone had a market capitalization of US$21.3 trillion in June 2017 but, in reality, you can begin passive investing into index funds with as little as $5. You dont have to take your whole savings on a roller coaster ride, but it is important to put a portion of your income into stock market. Youre better off guarding against money-eroding inflation and to saving up for your retirement. Arm yourself with knowledge and storm the market. 'Beast From the East' Causes Wedding Mayhem for Couple Who Had to Reschedule Ceremony Twice
'Beast From the East' Causes Wedding Mayhem for Couple Who Had to Reschedule Ceremony Twice
Many hopeless romantics spend their whole lives dreaming of having a white wedding. However, this took on a whole new meaning for Lucinda and Martin Kelly when the Beast from the East struck the UK. The couples Devon wedding was affected not once, but twice by the onslaught of snow when they were forced to postpone the ceremony originally due to take place on March 4. However, they proved that the cold never bothered them anyway by finally tying the knot two weeks later. When the Beast from the East arrived earlier this month, Lucinda and Martin were none-too-pleased with the prospect of the weather affecting their wedding. The last two weeks has been a complete roller coaster ride, Lucinda told The Independent . First of all our first wedding date was cancelled on the 4th, we were both so upset but then within a day we just continued as normal and focused on reorganising our second wedding! Rescheduling their wedding was quite a task, with both Lucinda and Martin having to go back to work in the interim. We had to reorganise a new DJ and make sure the hairdresser, makeup artist and photographer could all swap the date! Im just grateful our cake could be frozen, Lucinda said. As the big day came around once again, Lucinda and Martin couldnt help but feel slightly worried upon hearing reports of further freezing weather and snowfall. So as the 18th crept up we were hearing about the snow from all directions! Lucinda said. My attitude was like, Its going ahead. I cried out for any contact with 4x4 tractors, trucks and vans! Some members of the wedding party faced issues arriving at the Lord Haldon Hotel on time, with the groom and his best man having to hitch a ride with a tractor en route. A number of their guests werent even able to make it through the treacherous weather, including the registrar. However, the third time was the charm for the couple, who were finally married later that day by the hotels duty manager, Zoe Wakefield. Family including my granny of 92 and my cousin who is eight and a half months pregnant came! Nothing stopped us! said Lucinda. We even managed to get a few evening guests up too! While the Beast from the East causing havoc for their wedding had been a less than ideal series of events for the couple, they didnt let the unfortunate weather dampen their spirits. It was magical, I spent my whole life dreaming and wishing for a white wedding and I cant believe it happened! It happened twice! said Lucinda. Tips for Husbands with Pregnant Wives
Tips for Husbands with Pregnant Wives
Would-be-fathers play an important role during pregnancy. Here are some suggestions for husbands with pregnant wives.nPregnancy happens to be one of the most exciting and most tender periods in a couple's life. It is a mixture of mood swings, morning sickness, food cravings, routine checkups, anxiety and excitement over the impending arrival of your bundle of joy. Gone are the days when pregnancy was just a woman's business. Husbands can now play a crucial role in making the nine months long gestation period a lot smoother for their better halves. Here are some excellent suggestions for husbands with pregnant wives.nIt is a difficult to put in words the joy of holding your very own baby, your own flesh and blood, and your future. But until this exciting moment arrives, husbands or would-be-fathers have to go through an eventful roller coaster ride along with their partners. It is in fact the gestation period that actually prepares a man to handle fatherhood. Here is what husbands can do to help their pregnant wives.nAs pregnancy sets in your wife experiences a lot of mood swings on account of secretion of hormones. At the same time, she feels general anxiety over safely passing through the pregnancy period. One of the chief causes of anxiety for first time moms-to-be happen to be fear of labor pain, a fear of putting on excessive weight and losing the body shape. Your wives may get anger bouts at such times and husbands happen to be on the receiving end of their frustration most of the time. It is important for husbands to stop feeling like punching bags. Instead they need to understand that it is just a phase that will pass. nAs the pregnancy advances, wives feel the insecurity of looking less attractive to their husbands. At such times, husbands need to give constant reassurance to their wives that they look beautiful even as the pregnancy advances. Your wives may experience morning sickness for the first trimester or a bit longer than that. Be supportive and helpful during these difficult times, by avoiding smoking and consumption of foods that can cause nausea to your wives. You can avoid going out with your friends for a few days and instead spend some quality time with your wife. Make her laugh and forget her anxiety. You may even feel her belly and speak to your baby. It is proven that speaking to babies while they are still in the womb help create some of the best father-child relationships.nGetting pregnant is a completely different experience for young girls, especially if it happens to be their first pregnancy. Watch out for the way your wife breaks the good news to friends and family. Some expectant women love to ask for advice about pregnancy from experienced mothers while others decide to keep the news private. It is essential to respect your wife's decision as it is she who is going through the physical changes. It is common to announce a pregnancy after the first trimester is over.nFood cravings usually arise from the very first month of pregnancy and may last for just the first trimester or through the entire gestation period. A woman usually craves for foods that are essential for nourishing the baby in her womb. You will have to keep a cool head and try to satisfy her food cravings as much as possible. Your wife may crave for foods that are likely to add to her weight during pregnancy, but you need to stop thinking about that for the time being.nDreaming and planning for a beautiful baby nursery is a natural instinct amongst pregnant women. Do not discourage such feelings if your wife expresses them. You may start by helping her plan the new nursery. If you happen to know the sex of the baby that you are expecting, then you might start by choosing appropriate colors for paints or wall papers. Buy all the baby furniture, toys and curtains needed to make the nursery perfect.nYour wife may start planning a shopping spree for things like maternity gowns, post pregnancy garments and baby clothes. Make sure to accompany your wife during shopping visits to the mall. Your company is not just a feel good factor for your wife but she will appreciate your participation in helping her choose the best clothing.nPregnancy is a time of physical stress for women. Imagine carrying an additional weight of 6 to 8 pounds for an entire period of nine months! Pregnancy can cause pain in your wife's shoulders, lower back and feet. The sheer mass of the baby and the amniotic fluids can lead to painfully swollen feet. It is therefore essential to use some stress relieving techniques like a n or some acupressure to relieve physical stress. Another option is to exercise along with you wife. This helps her know that you want to be part of the whole pregnancy experience. Women often say, that pregnancies can be some of best times of marriage and companionship.nCare to schedule your office work in such a way that you can fit in time to make routine visits to your wife's gynecologist. It will not only makes your wife happy, but it can also help you get first hand updates about the progress and development of your baby. The session can be made interactive by asking questions and getting suggestions to make the pregnancy smoother. Take initiative to help your wife follow the routine of medication intake. One of the best moments of routine checkups happen to be the time when you get to see your baby on the ultrasound and hear it's heartbeats. These moments are something to die for.nOne of the most exciting activity is to choose a name for your baby along with your wife. You can start by ascertaining the sex of your child first and then proceeding to browse on the Internet for some really cute names. If you wish to name your child after some grandparents or uncles, then go ahead and suggest it. Prepare a cute little list of baby names for your wife to ponder.nLamaze classes or childbirth classes are recommended for both partners during pregnancy. It helps the would-be parents understand methods of handling childbirth. These sessions are highly interactive and are really helpful for first time parents. You get a chance to understand the breathing exercises that might help curb your wife's labor pain. As a husband, you get a chance to learn about handling the stress of the D-day.nYou might want to surprise your wife by planning a secret baby shower party in the 6th or 7th month of her pregnancy. Choose an appropriate theme for the baby shower. Send out invites to all friends and family. Make the event unforgettable by getting some beautiful baby shower gifts for your wife.nIt is virtually impossible for couples to plan a good vacation once the baby is born. It takes a good two years time before your baby starts becoming a little independent and your wife gets a chance to think about some exciting family vacation. So why not plan a short vacation during the pregnancy itself? Some of the best vacation ideas include a short cruise trip or a relaxing leisure holiday in Hawaii or the Caribbean islands. Avoid planning any stressful hiking or sightseeing activities during such a vacation.nI am sure that most of you are already taking extra pains to finish your work early at the office and rush home to spend some quality time with your pregnant wife. However, as the pregnancy advances, a woman's movements and work capacity might get restricted. In such cases, when there are no options of inviting help from your family and friends, you might need to multitask and pay some attention towards domestic responsibilities such as cooking and cleaning besides your regular professional work.nYour wife will always be happy and thankful if you apply for a paternity leave well in advance. If both the partners have their respective careers, then paternity leave is usually planned just as the maternity leave is coming towards the end. This helps your wife feel assured that you will be watching over the baby as she starts working after a long sabbatical. In such a case, plan the leave in such a way that it coincides with the maternity leave for at least 10 days, so that the baby will get used to your presence as a caregiver. If it is just you who is working and your wife is a homemaker, then plan the paternity leave to begin immediately after your baby is born.nWith all said and done, make sure that your wife feels as little mental stress as possible. Put a smile on her face each day and stay alert to face any unforeseen health problems. Your efforts will definitely bear you a healthy and happy baby.

Target Canada's Liquidation Sales Add to Worker Chaos
Target Canada's Liquidation Sales Add to Worker Chaos
Target Canada is struggling with employee defections and what one manager describesas "nasty morale" as it preps forliquidation sales later this week. The big sales are set to hit stores Thursday, according to internal company emails obtained by CBC News. Target Canada liquidation sales this Thursday will be 'like Black Friday' Target Canada workers feel left in the dark as stores close While it may mean great deals for shoppers, the added workload could spell added chaos for employees and managers. Target's stores are already suffering from a surge in absentee workers and some locations are overwhelmed by the truckloads of merchandise flowing in, the memos say.U.S.-based Target announced last month that it was closing its 133 stores in Canada and laying off about 17,600 employees. The Canadian operation hasreceived court protection from its creditors.According to court records, the company aims to have court approval on Wednesday for a group of liquidation companies to oversee the sell-off ofall store contents. All hands on deckThe big sales will mean big demands on store staff."We expect Thursday sales to double compared to a normal Thursday,"explains a Target Canada email sent to select staff on Jan.30.In another email, asenior human resources employee for the company in B.C. callsfor "all [cashier] lanes open through the weekend and all hands on deck."Plus there's a need for swift unloading of new cargo. She notes trucks will arrive more often, packed with products: "We need to work the trucks and empty them every day."Dwindling staffAll hands on deck may prove difficult. Since the shutdown announcement, a growing number of employees havent been showing up for work."Stores have experienced a spike in unjustified absences,"notes Target Canada operational updates sent on Jan.27and 29. Thoseemails also warn that workers off sick can be required to bring a doctors note "to justify their absence."It adds, "failure to present a doctors note can result in corrective action."Some Target Canada workers have told CBC News they're upset because they're not getting a severance package. Target is paying most employees for at least the 16 final weeks, but they may have to work for the entire period."People have been calling [in sick] because theres really a lack of motivation. Youre losing your job in a certain amount of time and theres no severance, theres no taking care of you,"a Target Canada management employee that we are calling David told CBC News.He asked that we not use his real name because he fearsrepercussions.Too much tohandleDavid says that some stores, including his, are already being bombarded with extra deliveries as the company clears out its warehouses."We are already starting to fall behind [unloading deliveries] in some locations," theJan. 29 operational update email confirmed. It askedaffected stores to "get caught up as soon as possible,"and notedthere will be additional deliveries this week.David says his store started receiving additional deliveries last week. He believes the heavy workload and spate of absences byemployees has been wearing on his remaining workers."These guys are just trying to work you like a dog and sending all this freight. Theres just really nasty morale," he says."My people are saying, they want to go for interviews but at the end of the day, theyre so god-darned tired."Liquidation meltdown?David worries how his dwindling staff will be able to cope with the extra challenge of a liquidation sale."My biggest concern and my biggest question is, even if I have a staff, do they care? And even if I can schedule them, will they show up? And then the people who do show up, whats it going to look like for them? How are we going to manage? Theres so much uncertainty around it."Hes concerned that, as the workload increases, more employees may call it quits early. "I think theres a high probabilityof a lot of people just walking away."Its going to be really tough for the team thats there, he concludes. Its going to be an emotional roller coaster.Asked for a response, Target Canada spokesperson Molly Snyder would only say that "the [employee] team is focused on managing the wind-down process."As sales ramp up and employees jobs wind down, David asks that eager discount shoppers show some compassion."My request is, the people that come in, they have some level of understanding that its not going to be easy for the people that are behind the cash registers and getting that stuff onto the floor.""Every time we sell something, we know were one step closer to losing our jobs."

Backcountry Biking in the Canadian Rockies
Backcountry Biking in the Canadian Rockies
Canada is known for huge expanses of wild, untamed land, setting the table for adventurous, serene escapes into the backcountry depths. With the assist of helicopter, float plane and hut access, the mountain bike is a deft tool for Canadian backcountry exploration. Make reservations in advance to be sure that you have access to your ideal backcountry biking trip. The province of British Columbia is home to the world's most numerous heli-skiing operations. In the summer, some of the province's helicopter operations offer bike trips. Like ski lifts, helicopters let downhill and freeride mountain bikers get to the top without pedaling, but unlike ski lifts, they let you explore more distant peaks and backcountry trails. Operations that offer heli-biking trips include Bear Back Biking in the Whistler area and Range Helicopters in Nelson. Bear Back offered heli-biking for $1,200 per trip as of 2011. That price can be split among up to four passengers.Heli-biking is the best way to maximize your descents, but if you would rather spend time quietly pedaling along remote trails, backcountry resort- or hut-based biking would be a better alternative. British Columbia has numerous huts, lodges and resorts strung across its national parks and forests, and though biking isn't available at many huts, there are some facilities where you can base yourself in the backcountry and mountain bike throughout the day. Options include Nipika Mountain and Tyax Wilderness resorts. As of 2011, room rates at Tyax Wilderness Resort started at $169.Similar to heli-biking, float plane trips entail traveling into the backcountry by air. Goldbridge, British Columbia-based Gravity Fed Adventures offers two float plane trips. The first is a 14-mile, all-singletrack tour of Spruce Lake in which you drop 3,000 feet of vertical over the course of 3 to 5 hours. The second is a more advanced, 27-mile, 4,000 vertical-foot tour at Warner Lake. This 5- to 7-hour tour is described as a cross country-style roller coaster with plenty of long downhill sections. Those two float plane trips are also available from Tyax Wilderness Resort. As of spring 2011, Gravity Fed Adventures listed prices of around $200.A number of guide services offer multi-day mountain biking trips. These services take care of accommodations and carry your gear so that you're able to remain light and nimble on the trail. Chilcotin Holidays offers pack-horse-supported multi-day rides in the south Chilcotin Mountains and Gravity Fed Adventures offers pack-horse-assisted, cabin-to-cabin biking in the Chilcotin Mountains. Meals are included with the tours. Gravity Fed Adventure's trips run $300 per day.Another option for backcountry biking in Canada is bikepacking. Like it sounds, bikepacking is basically a combination of backpacking and biking, in which you take self-supported, multi-day mountain bike tours. You carry all your own gear on your bike and back, so there is an emphasis on ultralight, minimalist equipment and packing. You'll also need to do more work in terms of research, route finding and trip planning, but exploring the backcountry under the power of your own feet and hands should prove worth it. Bikepacking.net (linked in resources) is a good resource for gear lists, routes and other information pertaining to bikepacking.Joe Fletcher has been a writer since 2002, starting his career in politics and legislation. He has written travel and outdoor recreation articles for a variety of print and online publications, including "Rocky Mountain Magazine" and "Bomb Snow." He received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Rutgers College.

15 Ways to Build Resilience and Tackle Stress
15 Ways to Build Resilience and Tackle Stress
Despite having her right leg amputated at age five, Bonnie St John became the first African-American ever to win medals in the 1984 Winter Paralympics. Bonnie graduated with honours from Harvard and Oxford, and served in the White House. In her latest book, she shares some of her hard-won wisdom on how to build more resilienceMost people think of resilience as bouncing back from a major setback like divorce, serious disease, or a natural disaster. But if you define resilience challenges in small terms - like rebounding from a difficult customer interaction or a dinner that didn't turn out well - practising resilience skills turns out to be much easier. For most of us, the hundreds of miniature bruises we experience each day determine our overall quality of life far more dramatically than the giant traumas that punctuate the decades.I coined the term "micro-resilience" to target proven, research-based tools that are easy to do during a busy day and lead to immediate results. The world's super athletes all use tiny ways of recovering their energy along the way during sporting matches, so why not apply that same discipline to our everyday lives Weaving small recoveries into your daily routine won't change what the world throws at you, but it can help you to be less drained by it. You can play your A-game all day long and still have energy left for yourself evenings and weekends.Tasks like prioritising your workload, coming up with new ideas, and making complex decisions, use more brainpower than menial tasks. Make sure you take on these mental challenges when you are fresh - first thing in the morning or after you've had a healthy snack to boost your energy levels. Don't try to run a Grand Prix without a full tank of gas!Interruptions and multi-tasking can effectively lower your IQ and make things take up to four times as long to accomplish. I suggest creating islands in the stream of daily communication where you can temporarily turn off distractions and focus on more challenging duties. You may only be able to create a zone once a day or even once a week, but any time you can do this you'll find your productivity soars. Communicating to those around you is critical for successful zones. Give people guidelines around the thresholds for interrupting your zones. Once they see how effective these islands are, they'll be happy to support you - and may even start creating zones for themselves.Have you ever said to yourself 'I exercised yesterday, and I will exercise tomorrow, but today I have this really important day, so I just don't have the time' The data shows that small amounts of exercise can make us smarter for hours afterwards: fresh ideas, better access to memory, and more connecting the dots. So, your new, more resilient approach is, 'I have this very important day today, so I can't afford not to exercise'.We waste a lot of energy during the day being triggered by things outside our control; we may tense up, become angry, or feel threatened. Car cut you off in heavy traffic You didn't get invited to an important meeting Our primitive impulses cause us to react swiftly and intensely to negative events or even the possibility that something bad might occur. In ancient times, this fight or flight reaction helped us to survive, but in a modern world, it undercuts our ability to think of creative solutions, collaborate in teams, and accept constructive feedback. Reducing our physiological reaction to daily "threats" is a great way to increase your resilience. A soothing sound, a pleasing smell like cinnamon or spearmint, or a few deep belly breaths (not tightening chest breaths), can quickly and immediately reset these primitive automatic responses.Standing tall and taking up more space, it turns out, has a physiological effect that can reduce our feeling of being triggered. This Harvard Business School professor found that - whether you are sitting or standing - opening up your arms, spreading your feet apart, and extending your posture, reduces cortisol (the fear hormone) and increases testosterone (giving more confidence to take risks). Once your body chemistry shifts from fearfulness to confidence, you can be more resilient about how you respond to what is happening around you.Research from Dr Matthew Lieberman at UCLA shows that when your emotions begin to run away like wild horses, using simple words to describe them can give you back the reins. Whether you say a word out loud or simply hold it in | your mind, this labeling process can slow the intensity of your reaction and open up some room for you to make choices. Are you feeling frustrated or helpless Think about how to change those states of mind by reframing those feelings. If you are angry, could you choose compassion insteadRetraining our wiring not to dissolve so rapidly into the negative is like getting a software upgrade to the human operating system. But the next level of improvement comes when we train ourselves to spiral more strongly to the positive. Research shows that we can raise our average positivity with daily exercises in the same way you can get physically stronger with regular workouts in the gym. Things like making a gratitude list, five minutes of positive focus, or taking a moment to simply enjoy nature, can lead to dramatic shifts in positivity levels. Higher positivity is linked to better relationships, more creativity, and even higher pay.You keep a first aid kit on hand in case of a cut or burn; why not be ready to address emotional bruises that inevitably occur Think about mementos, pictures, or pieces of music that can turn your attitude from negative to positive in an instant. Collect them up in a bag, box, or drawer and keep them accessible to grab when you need them. When the world conspires to put you down in the dumps, dip into your 'Joy Kit' to regain perspective and positivity. I have a note in my Joy Kit from my mother (who passed away more than a decade ago) that says: "Cherish yourself." Some people put their Joy Kit on their smartphone, including thank-you notes from work, funny pictures or videos. Even a recording of your dog's bark could be just the thing you need to snap yourself out of a funk.Write down on an index card a challenge or an obstacle that you are trying to overcome, like 'I want to get a higher degree, but I don't have the time or money' or 'I didn't get a budget increase so I can't bring on the creative project I'd like for my company.' Then, flip over the card and write the opposite - even if you don't believe it to be true. Write, 'I do have the time and money to get a higher degree' or 'I do have the budget to do that creative project.' Just by flipping your thinking, you will open your mind to creative solutions you may never have thought of. Posing your challenge in a positive way will also allow others to pile on with positive suggestions. It seems simple, but try it. You'll be amazed at the results. When you feel yourself (or others) getting stuck, discouraged, or cynical about a situation, try asking the three Cs: What am I committed to Find ways to focus on your values and what matters most to you in this difficult situation; What is the challenge to be faced Pick a small piece of the puzzle that you can tackle if the whole thing seems too overwhelming; What Choices do I Have Sometimes just remembering that you can quit your job or end your relationship reminds you that you are choosing to stay. You can always choose your attitude, too.You can be more resilient every day if you don't let your blood sugar levels go up and down like a roller coaster. Ever heard the term 'hangry' Skipping meals or eating sugary treats, for example, makes it harder to stay positive, think clearly, or resist being triggered by life's daily challenges. We all try to follow the advice about drinking six to eight glasses of water per day. When we are rushing, busy, or facing a tight deadline, however, these good habits tend to go out the window. Since the brain has a higher percentage of water than our bodies, we are likely to feel fuzzy and mentally off just when we need our wits about us the most. When this happens, grab your water. You'll get more resilience if you hydrate when you need to focus your brain and address tough situations.Companies have taglines or mission statements to communicate their values as well as succinctly state their unique purpose for existence. Make a date with yourself to reflect on your own tagline. Do people want you on a team because you are the behind-the-scenes problem-solver; the fearless crisis wrangler, or the truth teller who builds collaboration What role do you play in your extended family or at work Once you have a motto that reflects your values and uniqueness, display it in places where you will see it throughout the day - on your phone, in your car, at your desk. Reminding yourself of your strengths will give you a boost of energy when things start to feel difficult.Health & Living

How Long Does It Take to Heal After an Affair? the Stages of Healing After an Affair by Nicola Bee
How Long Does It Take to Heal After an Affair? the Stages of Healing After an Affair by Nicola Bee
Having worked with 100s of couples now looking to repair the relationship or heal themselves after an affair, most want to know how long does it take to heal and what are the stages of healing after an affair. Like when dealing with a significant loss, loss of a loved one, financial loss or health loss there is no set time period for the healing process after an affair. We all deal with loss in different ways and the discovery of a cheating husband or cheating wife is often a very different situation and experience from one person to the other. That being said, having helped countless men and women searching for marriage counselling after an affair has happened, there are some similar questions that come up. Such as:-Do I stay or leave the marriage?-Will my cheating husband or wife will cheat again?-How can we rebuild trust?-How can I forgive the affair and put the past behind me?-How can I stop the flashbacks and dreams of their infidelity?-How can I help my husband or wife heal after my affair?-How long it takes to heal after an affair ?-How long does it take for the relationship to recover after an affair?Anxiety is often very high, so today I want to provide an understanding of the typical time line of stages of healing after an affair, as a guide to support anyone going through this. It is important to know that none of the stages are rigid in terms of time frame, or even exact order. Although understanding the healing process after an affair can be helpful for many. The stages of healing after an affairHealing can begin from the first day of disclosure and an admission that affair has happened. Without honesty and admission of the affair, healing cannot begin, as the person is often battling with trying to piece together evidence and therefore are stuck with huge anxiety, confusion, hurt and fear.Healing after an affair starts on first day of admission: 0-3 months after an affairThis period of time will undoubtedly be very traumatic for the betrayed husband or wife. If this is has happened to you it is natural to be distraught and devastated on learning of your husbands or wifes infidelity. Its inevitable that you will experience all types of emotions including confusion, numbness, pain, fear, anger and sometimes relief or love. You may also start to attack yourself and internally question yourself by saying things like:How could this happen to me / us?nWhats wrong with me?nWhy me?nWhat have I done to deserve this?Or critically examine whether you are attractive, sexually desirable or fun enough. It is important to consistently reiterate to yourself that it is not your fault that your husband / wife had an affair. You are not to blame. This is not to say that elements of your own behaviour and actions should not be questioned or altered in the future, but for now do not allow yourself to feel responsible for their affair. Cheating is a choice and this choice was not yours. It was ultimately their choice to be unfaithful and have the affair. When men and women come to me for marriage counseling straight after the affair has happened and want to know whether to stay or leave their marriage, I urge them at this stage not to make any major decisions. You will not be thinking clearly or coherently in the first few weeks. Your emotions will be flip flopping all over the place, anxieties and images may also be flooding your mind. The first thing I support individuals and couples to do is to restore calmness and peace, we then set an action plan for steps to recover the relationship after an affair.During this period it is also likely that the offending spouse will be going through a variety of feelings. From confusion, depression, despair, guilt, regret and shame. What is key at this stage is to ensure that you are meeting your basic health needs. Ensure that you are eating well: a healthy balanced diet is required to support you, as well as taking plenty of time to process the news, rest and sleep. It is very common for people to experience weight-loss and disturbed sleep during this time. Or to want to resort to alcohol or junk food for comfort. This will not aid your recovery neither will working or exercising excessively. Through taking good care of yourself physically and mentally you will help to create the beginning of some stability.I like to say that the way to treat yourself during the beginning few weeks, is like a child who has the cold or flu. Rest, sleep, watch tv that makes you smile and feel good, eat nourishing foods and surround yourself with loving, positive, supportive people. Be careful who you share the news with, well-meaning friends and family can often give very confusing, conflicting or extreme advice that may leave you feeling worse. For the relationship after an affairThe cheating husband or cheating wife will need to cut all ties with the affair partner if there is any chance of reconciliation and repair. When couples come for marriage support to save the marriage and the affair partner is still in the background, it makes saving the relationship far more difficult. To rebuild trust after an affair, you will both need to be taking action to become closer. Small daily habits of kindness, affection, love and care will go a long way to rebuilding trust. This is why I dont believe in or practice traditional marriage counseling. Talking about the issues will not reinstall love, trust and respect relationship coaching with actions to move forward and heal does! It may be the phase to start looking at what influences were at play in causing the affair. Looking at the influences can support you whether you decide to part ways or stay together.Expect that there will be a lot of confrontation during this time. Fighting and disagreements over big and small things are common after an affair in this stage. Its vital that some marriage guidance on communication is sought. Especially if you had poor communication before the affair. Learning new ways of relating and engaging with one another will help you pull through. Talking it through with a trusted person can help to process and let go. I have 15 communication success principles I take couples through to change the way they communicate forever. If you are still suffering dont be too hard on yourself during this time. Undoubtedly you will have days when you want to give up on trying, when it feels too difficult to keep going. These are the times when you need to reach out and utilise all the resources you have at hand. Its a time to continue to give yourself a ton of self-love. Insecurities will hopefully lessen during this period, if you have addressed them.As a couple its a great time to put new strategies in place of how you will build back your connection, love and trust. Loving patience on both sides is crucial, as you develop a new direction for the relationship after an affair.6 months 1year after an affairThere is a chance that you may well have reached a stage where your marriage is healed during this time. However, for some there will be some very difficult days following the affair. Nevertheless, you will hopefully have moved to a phase where you can start to feel enjoyment in previously loved activities and function on a more normal level socially and at work. Taking control of your thoughts and managing any insecure feelings is key here, as they often dont go away by themselves. Check out my podcast show for more help, focused on how to heal from affairs, deal with insecurity and control your thoughts.Itunes Click hereStitcher podcast platform for google play1-2 Years after an affairHopefully overtime you will have reached a stage where you can begin to feel connected to your spouse and look forward to a future with them again free from fear. If there is still a lack of trust, respect or marital unhappiness, extreme insecurity or jealousy marriage counseling or individual counseling on clearing of the past maybe required.Forgiving and Forgetting after an affairTheres forgiving and theres forgetting. Forgiving brings freedom of past pain. Truthfully, it is incredibly unlikely that you will ever forget about being betrayed by your spouse. However, through true healing it is possible to remember the event without the associated hurt you experienced initially.Overall the most important thing is to be careful not to allow other people to tell you what to do. Remember that we are all different and what works for one person may not necessarily work for you! It is important that you make your own decisions at a time, and in a space that is right for you.nHere are the links again if you want some free audio guidance.nItunes for apple usersnStitcher for google playFrom my heart to yours, Nicola BeerNicola If you liked this article then you will love my marriage secret masterclass on how to create more love, happiness and closeness in your relationship. More Layers Than a Wedding Cake
On a good day the Burmawala brothers a.k.a. director duo Abbas-Mustan can be counted on to keep you engaged in their film as they hoodwink you into believing something while something totally different is going on. Abbas-Mustan Bobby Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Urvashi Sharma ***On a good day the Burmawala brothers a.k.a. director duo Abbas-Mustan can be counted on to keep you engaged in their film as they hoodwink you into believing something while something totally different is going on. They play with deceit and intrigue the way other directors play with emotions and there is always another corner to be turned before you can unravel the last clue. The good news is that today is a fine day in the world of the brothers. Not quite so though in the lives of the three main characters Karan Oberoi (Bobby Deol, a multimillionaire in Dubai), Sophia D'costa ( Urvashi Sharma, Karan's fiance) and Vicky Malhotra (Akshaye Khanna, an actor). Trouble is brewing and with everyone wearing not just one mask but several, the story has more twists and turns than a roller coaster has curves.Abbas-Mustan keep the proceedings light even laughing at conventional filmy scenes. When one of the characters is unmasked, he exclaims that his parents had no time for him, making him a money chasing maniac with no time for the finer emotions. Just when you are about to say "et tu Abbashai-Mustanbhai" the character smirks and says that wasn't the way it is, he chases money because he loves money. The directors set up the plot with finesse and with what is essential in a thriller loose ends all tied up. Nowhere do they falter with characterisation (some things may look strange when happening, but it all adds up in the end). They very wisely set it all up in the shorter first half and then relentlessly surprise you with a fast-paced second half. There is a certain precision demanded by thrillers and the directors get the timing just right. Not surprisingly, acting by all the characters is very good. While Bobby Deol (is success going to his waistline) and Akshaye Khanna are perfectly charming, it is newcomer Urvashi Sharma who catches your eye with a surprisingly competent performance, given that it is a complex role and this is her first film. The technical team deserves praise. Ravi Yadav's visuals are eye catching and Raju Khan's choreography deserves compliments. Music by Pritam is good too but the real heroes of this involved and complex yet hugely entertaining film are writer Shiraz Ahmed and the men in white, directors Abbas-Mustan.
