Queensland Health says it's investigating why dental instruments at Bundaberg Hospital weren't sterilised properly. Doctor Jeanette Young says 235 people were treated with instruments which had been cleaned, but not fully sterilised. The patients are being tested for HIV, Hepatatis B anc C, with results due by the end of the week. Wide Bay Health Service spokesman Dr David Sowden says those diseases are only a risk if one of the earlier patients had already been infected, and even then the chances of the infection being passed on are remote.
