A Quick Guide to the Best Intraoral Scanner for Industries

In the latest Coffee Break with Coachman episode, a series of video interviews with Christian Coachman and other influential figures and thought leaders in the dental industry, Christian talks with Dr. Ingo Baresel from Germany who is expert in digital dentistry and itero users and expert in restorative workflows for itero. In this episode, Coachman talks to Ingo about his experiences with different brands of intraoral scanners, delves into their characteristics and evaluates the value each scanner adds to the treatment process.

A Quick Guide to the Best Intraoral Scanner for Industries 1

Digital tooth impressions are one of the latest innovations that have revolutionized the dental industry. Digital dentistry uses digital impressions to shape the way dentists work. There are many different ways to capture dental imprints from traditional imprints to the wide range of intraoral scanners that are currently available on the market today.

It is no secret that 3D technology and 3D scanners in the dental sector are becoming increasingly important. Aligners increased the need for detailed scans and paved the way for developing intraoral scanners. The bars are much smaller today than with earlier intraoral scanners.

Older intraoral scanners have been criticised for their inability to produce a precise impression of the patient's molars. Our studies have shown that the precision of the intraoral scanner varies depending on the model superimposed on the buccal anterior tooth area and the entire upper arch.

According to a study published in February 2020 on the accuracy of intraoral scans for primary impressions of toothless jaws, i500 Trios Primescan intraoral scanner showed the best precision and can be used to obtain digital data and to make custom trays of diagnostic dentures to reduce cracks before the imprints are sent from the clinic to the laboratory. From the six intraoral scanners (Trios Itero, Planmeca Emerald, Cerec, Omnicam, Primescans and Virtuo Vivo), the highest accuracy for the Primescs and most deviations for the Planmeca Emerald were recorded for a single crown preparation.

In addition, intraoral scanning offers several advantages over conventional imprint techniques, including ease of use, lightweight design of the device and improved image precision. The integrated intraoral camera is quick and easy to use, generates 3-D colour prints and takes shaded scans. This includes access to the 3shape Communicate tool that makes it easier for dentists to communicate with their dental lab so they can discuss plans and cases before submitting scans.

The goal of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and precision of digital intraoral scanning of original morphology of the entire mandibular arch. The 3M True Definition Scanner has a reputation for being one of the most accurate scanners on the market and the ability to achieving consistent results. This shows the potential of 3D scans as an equivalent or better alternative to some conventional impression methods.

This study was intended to assess the accuracy of six newly introduced intraoral scanners (IOS) with single crown specimens isolated from the entire sheet and to determine the effect of the scanning sequence on accuracy. The reference data set was obtained by scanning the entire jaw with the most accurate industrial scanner (Atos Core 80 GOM GmbH). The gold standard was the industrial high-precision scanner (Artec Space Spider).

Rolls-Peterson Orthodontics (Mesa, AZ) uses the revolutionary itero scanner as the industry standard for intraoral scanning. Precise and up-to-date intraoral scans are guided by an aligner designed for the best results.

When deciding which digital scanner system to buy, it is important to take this information into account. Your practice may also want to remember that carrying out any kind of restoration with a scanner can prove useful for your patients.

Today, there are many iOS systems that use various scanning technologies on the market, and new ones are introduced every day. In addition to the various scanning technologies used by different manufacturers, new versions of hardware and software are continually improving the accuracy of IOS. 12.22 To our knowledge, the Edentulous Complete ARCH model has been used in studies to evaluate the accuracy of digital imprints with Primescan, Virtuo Vivo, Planmeca Emerald and newer recently introduced scanners, 12,13,23,24, as well as in studies comparing the accuracy of iOS with prepared teeth.

Costs are the main barrier to access to digital dentistry, and these scanners do not deal with them. This is a point of contention for these scanners, as there is a huge selection of cheap iOS versions these days. These scanners are not price oriented for users who want inexpensive scan-and-send options.

Instead of performing the CAD / CAM in-house, this system allows you to send the scan from your scanner to your computer where the design software is installed.

A typical intraoral scanner generates a 3-D image and keeps it in an open STL or locked STL-like format. It has a computer monitor and output software to process the output images. You can use a powerful laptop or trio and move it to the scanner with design software installed.

Intraoral scanners require only a fraction of the working time to create a conventional impression. Intraoral scanner dentistry uses optical imprints to create a scan of a virtual model.

One of its solutions is the Virtuo Vivo Intraoral Scanner, which is reminiscent of a pen due to its low weight of 130 g. The slim design of the scanners makes it convenient for doctors to hold and use the Planmeca intraoral scanner in the patient's mouth without fatigue. The PlanmECA Emerald intraoral scanners are commercially available at a higher price, but with basic functionality that is only a few dollars, you can get a functional and sophisticated intraoral scanning that can help you digitize your clinic.

According to the manufacturer, Aoralscan is characterized by its simple operation, its intelligent scan software, a self-developed software integrating extensive data processing functions and high-quality digital prints in real colors. Data optimization is the main feature of this scanner, as it helps to identify and delete foreign data. It is powder-free, which means a simplified process and improved patience and experience.
